Leviticus 23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an set apart convocation unto you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YAHUAH28 And you shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before YAHUAH your Elohiym29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. 30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. 31 You shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 It shall be unto you a shabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
Make sure that you AFFLICT (HUMBLE) your soul. Most people think fasting is the key but atonement is all about forgiving. You have to humble (afflict) your soul to forgive and also to ask for forgiveness. Yes it does HURT forgive according to the scripture. Once you forgive it can't be used again in judgment or condemning a person but so many people hold on to things in their heart. Do yourself a favor and release the scapegoat.
Happy Atonement mishpakah.
Glory be to Yahuwah! This post truly blessed me because the Father dealt with me in 2015 concerning Day of Atonement. September 22, 2015 (Day of Atonement) is a day I will never forget because He led me to study the word afflict and humble which led to forgiveness! I shared the understanding to my family that true affliction of the soul was to humble yourself through forgiveness not fasting. Thank you so much for being obedient to the Spirit of Truth and sharing this knowledge as it is edifying the body.
As we prepare for Day of Atonement (September 19th) I am filled with complete joy!
